Our physical health is ultimately dependent on the health of our cells, or to be more precise, the health of the mitochondria within our cells.
Mitochondria turn the food we eat into energy. Mitochondria are beautifully complex structures that live within almost all of our cells. Inside the mitochondria are intricately folded membranes that contain special enzymes, fats and proteins that are used to run elegant chemical reactions. These chemical reactions are what transform our food into the energy we need to live healthy lives.
If the quality of the food that we eat is good, and our mitochondria are healthy then our bodies are able to make lots of energy, which keeps our metabolism running smoothly, allowing us to feel happy, healthy and energetic. However, stress, poor food choices and environmental factors can impact heavily upon the health of the mitochondria, resulting in less and less energy being produced and leaving us feeling tired, sluggish and more susceptible to chronic ill health and disease.
